Police searching for a missing teenager as part of an investigation of quad bike thefts and a crash in Powys say they have found a body.

Rescue teams using dogs, divers and a police helicopter had searched the River Usk for Daniel Collins, 18, from Bristol.

It is thought Mr Collins may have been involved in a collision in Crickhowell, Powys on 30 October, police said.

Three males were arrested and bailed after questioning.

Dyfed-Powys Police said the body of an unidentified male was found on Monday after searches on the River Usk.

"We have yet to establish identity and HM coroner will be informed," said a spokesman

The alert stems from Sunday 30 October when Dyfed-Powys Police officers investigating quad bike thefts in the area gave "brief pursuit" to a vehicle which crashed into the historic Crickhowell Bridge.

The bridge, which dates back to 1706, suffered damage to a wall and a parapet.

Dyfed-Powys Police said its officers were acting on a report that two quad bikes had been seen travelling in an erratic manner along with a Citroen motorcar.

Officers found one quad bike near to the River Usk having collided with the boundary wall, said the force.

The other quad bike was found abandoned nearby. The Citroen vehicle collided with a bridge in Crickhowell.

Dyfed-Powys Police said a total of three males had been arrested in connection to the incident and were currently on police bail.

Avon and Somerset Police earlier confirmed that its officers were investigating Mr Collins' disappearance.

The force said he was last seen in Bristol on 28 October and concern for his welfare was growing "as it is believed he may have been involved in a collision on Sunday 30 October".

The police search - including a helicopter, dog team and dive team - had focused on the nearby river and bank, said the force.

The matter has been referred voluntarily to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), said Dyfed-Powys Police.
