Senior fire and police officers will be reporting live from fireworks related incidents in Coventry using Twitter.
Operation Commander Simon Shilton and Ch Insp Kerry Blakeman will be tweeting between 18:00 and 22:00 GMT on Friday.
They will also be uploading pictures and video.
Simon Shilton said: "Using a social media platform like Twitter is a great way to engage with the community because it is interactive, in real time and achieves widespread coverage."
People can watch the video updates by following @kerryblakeman or @spshilton.
The live Twitter feed has been organised by the Coventry Community Safety Partnership as part of a fireworks safety campaign involving the police, the fire service and local councils.
Community partnerships officer, Peter Sturgeon, said: "Last year we saw a 17.7% reduction in the number of firework-related incidents compared to the same period in 2009 and we're hoping for further reductions in 2011."
