Lee Fowler has backed Andy Morrell to be Dean Saunders' permanent managerial successor at Wrexham ahead of Morrell's first home game in temporary charge.

Blue Square Bet Premier leaders Wrexham host eighth-placed Mansfield Town at The Racecourse Ground on Tuesday after Wrexham beat Grimsby in his first game.

"Everyone at the club wants Andy to do well, he has the respect of every one of the lads," said midfielder Fowler.

Defender Curtis Obeng and striker Danny Wright return from bans for Wrexham.

And Morrell, who dropped himself to take charge at Grimsby, will also consider whether he recalls himself to the starting line-up to play Mansfield on Tuesday.

Morrell, who is in interim charge at The Racecourse following Saunders' departure to Doncaster Rovers, has revealed he has been given four games to test himself at the Welsh club.

But the 36-year-old admits he "doesn't know" if he wants to become Saunders' successor and insists he will have plenty of competition should he want to apply for the full-time post.

"I don't know whether I will like this management lark," said Morrell.

"It is a chance for me to see the other side of it. If I like it then I don't see any reason why I do want it.

"But I might not like it. Then I can just go back to being the player.

"The lads were fully behind me and that helps a massive amount.

"I will keep the ball rolling as I have four or five games but something might come up as it will be a popular job because it is a great club."

Wrexham, who were finally taken over by the club's Supporters Trust on Monday, are expected to announce a permanent successor to Saunders following their trip to Gateshead on 4 October.

Fowler scored in Morrell's first game as manager in Wrexham's 3-1 victory at Blundell Park on Saturday - and the former Wales under-21 international insists Morrell has the support of the players.

"Results will take care of themselves for managers," said Fowler.

"He is already here, he knows the club, is a fans' favourite and already you can see his determination and hard work.

"The template is there from Dean Saunders and it is good to have continuity."
