animal farm is a good book. I have a copy from my english lessons at school somewhere. I think we never returned it because we didn't quite finish it so the teacher never asked for it back.

You should be able to get all of these books from a public library.

1984 is also good by Orwell, but Down And Out In Paris And London is my favourite of his books.

Being an American and a left winger, you may want to have a look at The Jungle by Upton Sinclair... I have heard good things about this.

for starters.. I do not recommend the manifesto..

It is better to start with ABC of Socialism, written by an American author, Leo Huberman. The language of the book is very easy to understand the theories of socialist economy, and politics.

After that I recommend the manifesto. (half of the book is not valid, if we think about the conjncture.

Socialism Betrayed by R. Keeran and T. Kenny. These two are american authors, too. I think Keeran is a member of the CPUSA. Nevertheless, this book is good for people who seek to learn about the Soviet experience. and the reasons it collapsed.

About the national issues:

Marxism and National question and explotation question - J. Stalin

Nation's right to determine their fates - V.I. Lenin

For non theoritical:

I recommend Germinal - Zola, and Memories from Lenin- N. Krupskaya (his wife)

I have only read 1984 by G. Orwell, but as you know he´s a trotskist. His books is all Stalin critics. You must see the whole picture, who was that man? He came from a wealthy brittish colonial family in India. He was in Spain to fight fascists during the civil war but he refused to shot falangists sometimes he claimed himself with the arguing that he came to shot fascists, not men with their pants down, cause according to himself he saw fascist soldiers who was urinating. The guy is a fucking joke.

I can recommend military-political writings by Chairman Mao and also
Quotations from Chairman Mao.

Well you also must remember that those books are fiction and only one view point. I like to read all view points not to just outcost them. I always rather debate someone who disagrees with me then someone who will do my biding with not questions ask. Politics is ment to be completcated but we shouldn't make society like that. That is why Capitalism is faileing and it will fall sometime but we must step away from the stupid igrongets who clame to be for the left side but end up ruing our society.....
