The future of television Empty The future of television

Seventy five years ago, on 2 November 1936, the BBC launched the world's first high-definition television service at Alexandra Palace - although of course HD meant something rather different back then.

Elsewhere on the site you can plenty of fascinating material about how television started and how it has changed since.

Even in my mere 30 years in television, I've seen plenty of change - from shooting on film in regional news, through the use of the first Electronic News Gathering cameras with separate recorders, then to smaller cameras using more compact digital video tapes, to today when the whole process, from shooting to editing to transmission, has become digital.

Radio Times asked me to look at where television might be heading next - you can read my thoughts here.
