Washout frustrates Durham
Division One leaders Durham were left frustrated again as the second day of their clash with Hampshire at Emirates Durham ICG was lost to rain.
Only 30 overs were possible on the first day of action and with none at all being bowled on day two, bottom club Hampshire still sat on 77-3 in their first innings when play was abandoned.
Durham, who are currently seven points clear, have three matches left after this week and their three title rivals have games in hand. Hampshire are 50 points adrift of safety.
Day One
Durham's pursuit of a third title in four years was once again hindered by the weather at Chester-le-Street.
They lost more than a day to rain in last week's home draw against Nottinghamshire and only 30 overs were bowled on the first day of their match against Division One's bottom club, Hampshire.
Put in, the visitors reached 77-3 after play finally began at 3.45pm.
Callum Thorp quickly reduced Hampshire to 9-2. But he was rested with figures of 5-3-5-2 and the change bowlers failed to trouble acting captain Jimmy Adams and Neil McKenzie, before bad light halted play at 5.18pm.
The first attempt to resume at 6pm was aborted because of more rain, but they returned eight minutes later and after square driving Mitch Claydon's first ball for four Adams chopped the third into his stumps to depart for 23.
But with the forecast poor for the whole four days, leaders Durham's hopes of claiming a victory look slim.
